Chapter Ten
Axel stayed inside her until he waned, just watching her face as he held her afterward.
âWhat if I get pregnant?â
Axelâs lips twitched in a faint smile. âThen we will have offspring. That is usually the desired result from breeding, aside from the pleasure.â
She frowned. âIs that what you want?â
It was his turn to frown. âDonât you?â
Did she? Maybe. âNot yet,â she said. âI want more time with just us. â¦to be sure thatâ¦â
Understanding flickered in his eyes and a little bit of hurt. âYou donât trust me to stay and help raise it with you.â
Layna turned her head to look away and avoid his probing gaze and sighed. âMaybe. Itâs happening too fast. Iâm just not ready.â She met his gaze again. âIâm not saying never, just not now.â
Axel relaxed a little. âIâm not ready to share you yet, either. I can program the nanites to hold off sperm production until we are both ready. Okay?â
Layna nodded. âBut what if I am already pregnant?â
âYou arenât,â he assured her. âAnd there are ways we could handle it if you were.â
âKill it?â She gave him a horrified look.
âAbsolutely not! We could remove the embryo and preserve it until we were ready, or put it into a nurturing tank to grow it as cyborgs are grown. I would never kill our offspring.â
Layna breathed a sigh of relief, and affectionately kissed his mouth. She was captivated by his attention to her needs and the warmth in his eyes as he looked at her face.
Finally, he pulled out of her and let her down until her feet were on the floor again. He pulled up his pants and pressed the hook and loop closure together far enough so they would stay up. Layna pulled her shirt down over her breasts, while Axel retrieved her pants then helped her put them on. He hunkered down and put her boots on her feet, picked up his shirt, and pulled it on. He tucked it into his pants and finally closed them.
Momentarily, they heard a plaintive meow accompanied by scratching against the closed door. Layna laughed. âSammy thinks weâve kept him waiting long enough for dinner.â
âHe wonât have to wait much longer. Letâs go to our quarters, and I will have a droid bring us our food there.â
Layna gave him a grateful look. He had to know that she was overflowing with his semen and it was running down her leg inside her pants. She gave him a wry smile. Despite her discomfort, she didnât regret a single moment of their joining.
Once they were both dressed presentably, Axel surprised her and lifted her into his arms to carry her back to their quarters. Layna put her arms around his neck and nestled her head against his chest. She knew better than to protest. He knew very well she could walk. He carried her because he wanted her in his arms, and just then that was where she wanted to be.
An autocart with hot food was waiting outside their door by the time they had showered and dressed in fresh clothing.
